Spider Lashes: 2026's Clumpy, Gothic Lash Trend, Step by Step

Spider lashes are 2026's chunkiest, spookiest lash trend. Here's our full step by step for clumped, spiky lashes using vegan, cruelty free kit.

There is a new lash obsession crawling across TikTok and Instagram this week, and it is every bit as delicious as it sounds. Spider lashes (sometimes called Twiggy lashes, after the 1960s icon who wore them first) are back, and the alt beauty crowd has claimed them as their own. Think chunky, spiky, deliberately clumped lashes that fan out like little legs. It is messy in the most controlled way possible, and it is having a proper moment. 🕷️

If you have scrolled past a video this week of someone dragging a wet mascara wand through their lashes and ending up with something between a doll and a creature of the night, that is the look. It pairs beautifully with bare, glowing skin or a full smoky eye, which is exactly why we love it. Here is our full step by step for getting perfect spider lashes at home, using kit that is already sitting in your bathroom cabinet (or should be).

What are spider lashes, exactly?

Spider lashes are lashes that have been intentionally coated and pressed together into clumps, rather than combed through and separated like a "clean" mascara look. The clumps fan outward from the lash line, creating that spidery, spoke like effect. It began as a happy mascara accident decades ago and has been reclaimed again and again by punk, goth and alternative beauty circles ever since, because let's be honest, it was always a bit goth to begin with.

Step 1: Prime the lid, not just the lashes

Spider lashes look their sharpest against smooth, hydrated skin, so start with a light layer of our Vitamin Rich Miracle Moisturiser & Primer. It sinks in fast and gives your eye makeup something soft to grip onto, so you are not fighting dry patches later in the night.

Step 2: Curl before you coat

This step is non negotiable. Clumped lashes need a strong curl underneath them or the whole look collapses into your lash line. Use our Eyelash Curler, which has a built in comb to separate every lash before you curl, giving you a clean base to build your clumps from.

Step 3: Lay down a moody base

Spider lashes look incredible framed by a soft, smudged eye. Sweep our Prime Time & Line in Smokey Grey along the upper lash line and gently smudge it into the socket for an instant "just crawled out of a crypt, effortlessly" vibe. If you want more definition, tightline your waterline with the Smoulder Eyeliner Pencil in Black, which is soft enough to smudge but stays put once it sets.

Step 4: Build your clumps

Now for the fun bit. Load up our AMPLIFIED Mascara, our gothic festival tubing formula built to survive sweat, spells and strobe lighting in equal measure. Apply your first coat as normal, wiggling the wand at the root. While it is still tacky, go back in with the wand held vertically and drag it through in sections, pressing lashes together rather than combing them apart. Let each clump dry for a few seconds before moving to the next, otherwise they will slide back together into one solid mess (we have all been there).

For extra definition at the outer corners, dip a fine liner brush into a tiny amount of our LASHLOCK Clear Eyelash Glue and pinch two or three lashes together by hand, holding for a few seconds until they set into a proper spider leg. It sounds fiddly but it takes seconds once you get the hang of it, and it is the trick that separates "accidental clumps" from "intentional spider lashes."

Step 5: Add a wash of colour, if the mood strikes

Spider lashes do not need to stay monochrome. If you fancy something a little more theatrical, our "Til Death" Heavy Metal Liquid Eyeshadow Collection is gorgeous swept along the lower lash line to match your clumps, giving the whole look a wet, metallic finish that catches the light beautifully under club lighting or candlelight alike.

The final web

Finish by checking your clumps in natural light and daylight both, since spider lashes can look subtly different depending on where you are headed. Comb through any stray clumps that feel too heavy with a clean spoolie, and leave the rest exactly as chaotic as you like it. That is the whole point.

As always, every product in this tutorial is vegan and cruelty free, because looking like you belong to the night should never cost an actual creature of the night its life.

Tag us if you try your own spider lashes this week, we would love to see your take on 2026's spookiest lash trend. Until next time, stay dark and stay soft. 🖤
